In today's 24x7 world, employees expect to be able to work from home, oftentimes on a family computer. Benefits enrollment being is a prime example of this. This means exposing PeopleSoft self-service to the Internet.
The problem is that exposing PeopleSoft to the Internet exposes, by default, all of its functionality. Imagine someone changing direct deposit accounts from a cafe in china. URL filtering, often used as a means of mitigating this risk, is not enough to solve the problem.
Security by Location puts a second layer of security in front of all PeopleSoft accounts. A user's role access is dynamically changed based on the user's location. Being on the intranet provides full access to PeopleSoft while being connected via the Internet prevents access to sensitive pages, data and pagelets (something URL filtering cannot do). Even if your payroll administrator has their password compromised, your system is still secure from Internet based attacks.
"What we are seeing is people are using them [mobile devices] for both personal and business use. The line between business users and consumers is becoming less differentiated"
